Petra Cafe’ and Hookah Lounge is THE place for hookah in St. Louis. I tried a couple other places downtown and in the Loop, but Petra wins hands down.
I love hookah, but it’s definitely a communal thing; to be shared with lots of friends. To me, that’s what makes Petra so great: the fact that there’s a thriving community of hookah-savvy people to share smoke and swap lies. It’s like a Middle-Eastern Cheers.
My favorite hookah flavor has to be Double Apple. Wait. My favorite flavor is Double Apple with Fresh Cream tobacco. That, combined with one of Petra’s wacky specialty drinks, and a plate of their hummus (one of my favorites in STL) makes the start of an awesome night for me.
I suggest taking your friends here prior to a big night out. The service here is friendly and intimate. After a few visits, the bartender/owner will be on a first-name basis with you.
I also suggest checking Petra out in the warmer months. It’s great to people-watch the South Grand party goers come out of the woodwork, while you sit back, relax and puff away on your favorite hookah flavor.
When it comes to community, service, and product, Petra is definitely up there in my book.
I’m filling out the “Price” thing below… It’s also pretty cheap compared to the other hookah places in the city.

Looking for a great place to relax, socialize, enjoy drinks,
or just have a cup of tasty coffee?
Petra Cafe’ and Hookah Lounge is without a doubt one of it’s kind in St.Louis.
The atmosphere has the Bohemian vibes matched with the Cafes’ in European Cities. Not much eye candy however it benefits the establishment. (Giving it a relaxed setting)
A great place to bring a group of friends
or even a place to simply relax on your own.
The owner is more than friendly and the regulars are all laidback and enjoy a good conversation.
Serving fresh Sandwhiches, Gyro Pates, and the most delicious hummas plate anywhere in town.
Equipped with a full bar, from PBR’s to Top-shelf Cocktails, and Zesty Wine Selection. But still retains a Cafe’ environment with they’re array of Caffinated beverages!
A perfect hangout for the communtiy.
I personally am a frequent visitor and have never had a bad experience.
I highly recommend Petra Cafe’ and Hookah Lounge to anyone of all ages.
As a frequent visitor for the past year i notice the popularity growing every week.

Petra from my first visit has become regular and most loved bars. I walked in on a slower week night and before i finished my first beer was welcomed into conversation with the bartenders and regulars like i had been coming for month. There bartenders and regular customers have quickly become friends of mine. They have a wide variety of hookah flavor and tasty foods to enjoy. Also with some of the cheaest drinks in STL you can’t complain. I have a great experience at petra whether im chatting with the bartenders and a few customers on a tuesday night or getting the occasional whats up at the bar on a hectic friday night. Bargoers beware of great food and hookah and excellent bar service.
